An investigation into police violence in post-apartheid South Africa, from the killing of 34 miners at Marikana to allegations of torture and brutality against protesters.

The film examines a disturbing question for the new South Africa: whether a police force once transformed by democracy was again being used to protect political power.

THE RESPONSE

The investigation travelled well beyond its Channel 4 transmission. Its findings were picked up prominently by the South African press, feeding directly into the country’s own debate around police brutality, corruption and political power.
